At the bidding of the Risen Lord, the apostles appointed James as Bishop of Jerusalem, and this is the origin of the first Orthodox Church. All other local Churches sprang from Jerusalem and with apostolic authority. Today, all the Churches who have maintained this bond of faith, structure and divine services form what is often called the Eastern Orthodox church. |
