QUESTION:

1/20/2010: How is a person justified according to the teaching of the Orthodox Church?

ANSWER:

The show answer is that one is justified being being "in Christ." He is the Mystery of God, and all that we are and do in the Church aims at being "in Christ."

The Canon of St Andrew of Crete (Monday, First Week, Song 3) is quite a good summary:

"Thou art my sweet Jesus, Thou art my Creator; in Thee, O
Savior, I shall be justified."
